Clean-agent fire suppression matters more than ever as edge data halls proliferate in mid-tier cities. Choosing the right agent is a balance of extinguishing performance, human safety, and long-term environmental impact.

FM-200 remains popular for its rapid extinguishing time and manageable cylinder footprint. However, its Global Warming Potential is high, which is nudging environmentally conscious owners toward alternatives.

Novec 1230 offers similar performance with a near-zero GWP. The catch is a higher agent cost and slightly larger cylinder sizes, which can be a challenge in retrofits.

Inert gases like IG-541 or nitrogen mixes are attractive when human occupancy is a concern, since they extinguish by lowering oxygen without producing decomposition products. The trade-off is significantly more cylinder space, which older data halls rarely have.
